Senior full professor of the Department of Sociology at the University of São Paulo, CNPq researcher associated to the Brazilian Center of Analysis and Planning (Cebrap), full member of the Brazilian Science Academy. Doctorate in Sociology (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, 1983) and post-doctorate from MIT/SPURS Program (1993-1994). Taught at the universities: UnB, UFBA, and USP in Brazil; at Princeton and Illinois/Urbana-Champaign in the United States; and at EHESS in France. Works in the fields of gender, age, and race inequality in the market and workplace; the trajectories and experiences of unemployment and seeking employment; care and its forms of work.
